Sonnet has been making Mac accessories since the Old Days, and their Firewire 400 to 800 adapter is a simple adaptor which converts your FW400 cable to a FW800 plug. It fits snugly on both ends, and using it, I was quickly able to get my old MiniDV camcorder to show up in iMovie. As you’d expect from Sonnet, it just works…"
Buzzillions Rating Simple Adapter, Elegant Design
For about a year, I've had an audio interface that connects via 6-pin FireWire 400. My old laptop died, and I bought a 13" MacBook Pro, which only has a 9-pin FireWire 800 port. This adapter lets me use my audio interface with my new computer. The adapter fits snugly around the end of the firewire cable and into the FW800 port in the laptop. Bus power and data transfer work as expected. It's not a complicated adapter, but this one has a clean, durable design, and it does the job perfectly."
Buzzillions Rating Great Product, Just As Advertised
Since my new iMac (2009 model year) only comes with the 9-pin Firewire 800 slot, I use this adapter to connect my Maxtor Time Machine hard disk via a Firewire 400 cable (the Maxtor only has Firewire 400 6-pin adapter). The other way to do this was for me to get a 9-pin female to 6pin male adapter—apparently that is extremely hard to find! This product is made with professional quality, and has a rubber like outside which can withstand torture! Can't really give anything less than a 5 star!"
Buzzillions Rating This Adapter Saved Me!
I recently switched from my old computer to a new Mac Pro. My new computer has 800 FireWire ports but the old one only has 400 FireWire ports. All my external hard drives, my DV Deck and components only have 400 FireWire ports. With the 400-800 FireWire adapter I can hook anything up to my new computer without any issues. This adapter saved me hundreds of dollars."
Buzzillions Rating Works Like a Charm
This adapter solved my problems with after I purchased a new Mac Pro that only had FireWire-800 connections. The only bad thing I see and it is a very minor things is it sticks out about 2 inches and the connections seems like it could be more secure. That being said, it was well worth the price."
Buzzillions Rating

Extremely high build quality. When you hold it you feel like it's the real thing. Great trick to keep in your bag for hooking up to older cameras, HDs and computers.

If you own a new mac you need one of these can-openers.

Side benefits: makes use of your older cables."
